Reflections and New Directions – A Mindset Shift for the Start of a New Year

Our very own Emily, the founder of Deerly, shared this on social media: “Release What Isn’t Serving You” as a part of her 22 Thoughts to Shift your Mindset in 2022 series.
I don’t know about you, but for me, the first couple of months of the year are the hardest ones.
As someone who does not feel motivated by the “fresh start” of January, I’m forever in awe of those who are organized, those natural planners who dive right into the new year with clarity and excitement.
I’ve always felt the pressure to conform because…shouldn’t I? This year, however; I decided to put that assumption to the test. Because if it’s not natural if it leads to distress instead of success, how does this approach serve me?
After some personal reflection, evaluating my strengths and weaknesses, I ultimately concluded that I need a different approach. I need these months to be catered to my particular skills and needs.
And with that, I spent January doing what came naturally. It was purposefully slow, purposefully restful. I didn’t start any new projects, I didn’t establish new goals. I decompressed and reflected on the past year.
2022 started unlike any other year, and so far, it’s serving me well.
