Work From Home Wardrobe Staples for Fall + Winter

Working from home has its perks. You can tackle a quick chore after a Zoom call, you can cuddle up with your pet while you answer emails, you can go on a walk around the neighborhood on your lunch break, and most importantly, you can dress more comfortably.

While it can be tempting to roll out of bed and head straight to your desk without changing out of your PJs (don’t get me wrong – there are a few mornings I do this!), I almost always feel better when I get dressed. Changing into “real” clothes in the mornings helps me prepare for the workday ahead, and changing back into my PJs in the evenings helps me unwind.

The key to getting dressed for work regularly is to simplify your wardrobe. I do this by having a go-to uniform and a closet full of staples I feel good wearing. My uniform is quite simple – one comfortable piece, one polished piece, and one accessory. I can be creative in mixing and matching my pieces, but there is a minimal effort in putting together my outfit.

I’ve compiled a list of my favorite work from home staples, plus a few that caught my eye while browsing! If you’re back to working in the office or heading back soon, don’t worry – there are quite a few staples that will work for you too!

Straight-Leg Jeans

A lot of people can’t imagine wearing jeans comfortably at home, and if you’re one of them, my guess is that you probably haven’t found the right pair for you yet. I promise a good pair of straight-leg jeans will make all the difference. I absolutely love this pair. I reach for them almost every day! They’re a lighter wash, but I’m trying to narrow down which darker wash to get next. I recommend getting your true size for a relaxed fit or size down for a more fitted look.

Straight-Leg Pants

This staple is next on my wish list! Straight-leg pants come in a variety of colors and fabrics. They also seem slightly more forgiving than jeans. Perfect for sitting at a desk all day! I’ve been eyeing this pair. I think the sandstone color would look great year-round.

Pull-On Pants

When I want to feel comfortable and polished, I turn to pull-on pants. This pair is really similar to the pair I own. Between the elastic waistband and breathable fabric, they make getting dressed in the mornings a breeze. The tapered legs help them look more professional, but they’re extremely versatile. They can be dressed up for a day at the office when paired with block heels or high ankle booties or dressed down with a pair of sneakers for a day of exploring a new city. My go-to uniform with these pants is pairing them with a sweater and loafers.

Blouses

I love, love, love this staple. If I want to feel and look my best when working from home, I put on a blouse! There is just something about them that makes me feel productive and confident. They come in so many colors and patterns. I enjoy a little ruffle detail, so I have a few blouses like this one in my closet, but I think I’ll be adding an oversized one into the mix soon.

Sweaters

Sweaters are another staple I reach for almost every day! They are easy and comfortable to wear while also being effortlessly stylish. Most of my sweaters are from here or here, but my favorite is a cashmere turtleneck sweater I thrifted a few years ago. My secret for ultimate comfort when it comes to wearing sweaters? This seamless bralette.

Cardigans

I usually gravitate towards wearing longer cardigans because it reminds me of being wrapped in a blanket. So warm and cozy! Lately, I’ve loved the look of cropped cardigans, though. They look good paired with or without a t-shirt underneath. At $25, this cardigan is a good affordable option, but if I could splurge on a cardigan, it would be this one, hands down.

Matching Loungewear

I know this one doesn’t quite fit my go-to uniform formula, but as I said, there are a few mornings where I don’t feel like changing out of my PJs, so I put on matching loungewear instead. It’s so cozy! I have a cropped sweatshirt similar to this one and sweatpants similar to this one. I also love the look of this ribbed top and these ribbed pants.

Accessories

I like to keep my looks simple with a pair of classic pearl stud earrings and a dainty gold necklace, but when I want to elevate my look, I’ll wear a pair of statement earrings, a cute headband, or even rock a tinted lip balm.
